The area of your home that serves as the main entry likely gets abused and overlooked. However, it is also an area that you use a lot. Wouldn’t it be nice if it functioned well and looked nice too? It is possible!
Of course we would be happy to build you custom cabinets to maximize the space and conceal your clutter, but we also know that projects like that don’t always happen overnight. Here are some quick solutions to common entryway dilemmas. Our Minnesota winters can really put an entryway through its paces, so you have to plan ahead.
1. Start by removing the summer gear. It is sad, but necessary. Put summer shoes in a tote and move light jackets to another closet – think guest room if possible. If not, put those in a tote as well. You will need all the room you can get casino online for the bulkier winter clothes.
2. Get a boot tray, which is a rubbery mat with lipped edges. It provides a place for snowy shoes and boots to go and saves you from stepping on cold wet spots.
3. Come up with a place for some baskets. One for each kiddo in the house, adults can probably share. This basket is where each family member’s hats, mittens, and scarves go. There are tons of cute containers, so if you can’t stash these in a closet get some that you won’t mind looking at. It will eliminate digging through a heap in the morning as you rush out the door.
4. If you have little ones in your house consider adding some of those handy 3M Command Adhesive hooks at a low level in your closet. They can easily be removed later, but often there is plenty of space down low for smaller jackets and they can hang it up and get it down themselves.
5. If you have a collection of scarves, get yourself a scarf hanger like this one on amazon.com. They can keep up to twenty scarves organized on a single hanger. Brilliant.

Spring cleaning gets a lot of attention, but I am far more motivated to do a deep autumn cleaning. Knowing that we are about to spend a lot of time in our home encourages me to make it the best it can be. There are countless things one can do around the house, the list never ends…but here are a few suggestions for things to get done before the snow flies and the temperature dips.
Clean the exterior of your windows. There is a long stretch ahead of looking out those windows and you’ll be happy to have a clear view. The forecast looks promising for some good days yet to get it done. Start with the windows you look out the most, so if you run out of time, light, or energy the important ones will be done.
Have your furnace, chimney, and flues inspected. Clean the glass door of your fireplace. If you have a gas fireplace, vacuum the inside of the firebox and the logs. Birds like to build nests atop of the outside vent, so check that area prior to using the fireplace. Now is also the time to clean or replace furnace filters.
Once the leaves are down, it is a good time to clean the gutters one last time prior to spring. The composting leaves and debris will be a gross mess in the spring and the added weight is hard on the gutters, so get it done now.
If you like to grill year-round, your grill may be nasty by this point in the season. Take the time to clean it now and it will work well over the winter. And who wants to clean it in January?
You will likely be doing more indoor cooking over the months ahead, so the kitchen deserves more than a quick once over. Pull out the fridge and vacuum under it and the coils on the back. It may surprise you how many dust bunnies live under there. You may also find Barbie shoes and Matchbox cars – bonus! Clean your oven, so it is ready to bake those holiday meals and treats.
Next time you’re at the store stock up on big stuff – water softener salt, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry soap – the stuff that fills the cart and makes pushing it over a snow covered parking lot feel like a major chore.
Daylight savings is also a good time to replace the batteries in smoke detectors and flip mattresses!

We are excited to be a part of the Minnesota State Fair WISER LIVING: Smart Solutions for Aging at Home Exhibit!
We like many Minnesotans love the Fair and go each year. Country Living rated it one of the top ten! Don’t believe me? Who knows what new food will be on a stick this year! We designed a roll out last year with the state fair in mind.
Roll Out Shelves for Everything!
We know it’s not practical, but we had fun with it.
But this year, the Fair will be a new experience for us. We will be working instead of playing! We will be at the exhibit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is located on the street level of the 4-H Building. This interactive exhibit is designed to help visitors and caregivers facing the challenges of aging or chronic health issues envision how they can transform their current homes into more user-friendly spaces. Each room of this “idea house” will showcase innovative product solutions and services that help support independence—ranging from simple household goods to
new wireless technology to meal services and more. The Front Porch Stage will feature speakers, demonstrations and entertainment. WISER LIVING is a partnership of the Minnesota State Fair, Aging Services of Minnesota and Older but Wiser Living.
We will be building the kitchen for the idea home. We will feature our roll out shelves that can be built for your existing cabinetry as well as talking about universal design concepts for those looking to do a new kitchen. We have a lot of new ideas for accessibility and storage. We even have a roll out for a KCups!

Superior Construction
We use solid maple dovetail drawer box construction and full extension 100 pound capacity drawer slides. Solid wood and dovetail joints make for a more sturdy and durable product. Our full extension slides allow you to access the items at the back of the drawer easily. Each shelf can hold 100 pounds. That’s a lot of canned goods!
Custom Built for Your Cabinet
We don’t have any standard sizes or designs. Each shelf is built to your space. The interior of the box can be customized with dividers, knife blocks, and can managers, just to name a few. Our shelves are also height adjustable. If you need to move them up or down, it’s a matter of removing a couple of screws and it takes only a minute.

We come to your home and do a design consultation to start with. We will help you figure out the best place to put roll outs and how to customize them to meet your needs. Then we build them to your specifications and install them in your existing cabinets.
Standard Pricing
All of our roll outs are $170 each, no matter what size. That price includes the initial consultation, measure, build, and installation. If you want to add dividers to the drawer , knife blocks, etc, there is an additional $25 charge.
